Carpenters Star Quilt - Part 2

We will begin the class by planning our blocks on paper, then we will start piecing. I strongly recommend that you have a fair amount of contrast between the background fabric and the fabric that will produce the star pieces. In the second class we will lay our blocks out and piece the rows

The finished piece is 83" x 83" but you may widen your border or add additional borders to make it larger. The quilt in the upper left photo has 4 borders and is a full king size so there are plenty of options if you would like to make yours a full queen or king.

**If you email me I will provide the additional fabric you will need if you wish to make yours larger.

If you are using a layer cake (lower right photo) you will need:

1 layer cake

2 1/4 yards background fabric

1 1/2 yards border fabric

3/4 yard binding

Backing can be 42" fabric - 7 3/4 yards or wide back - 2 3/4 yards

If you are using yardage (upper left photo) you will need:

2/3 yard - star fabric #1

2/3 yard - star fabric #2

2/3 yard - star fabric #3

2/3 yard star fabic #4

1 yard - fabric between the stars OR this can be the background fabric, in which case you will add this to the yardage needed for the background.

1 1/2 yards background fabric

1 1/2 yards border fabric

3/4 yards binding

Backing will be the same as above unless you are making yours larger.

Other materials needed:

Sewing machine with 1/4" foot

Thread

Rectangular ruler at least 15" long or a ruler to mark diagonal seams for HST

9 1/2" square or larger OR your favorite ruler for trimming HSTMarking pen
